About the Planning Academy
What is the Milton Keynes City Council Planning Academy?

Milton Keynes City Council has signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Royal Town Planning Institute to champion professional planners.
The Planning Academy includes a new intensive programme led by Milton Keynes City Council's award-winning Planning department to help graduates start and progress their planning careers. In addition to gaining valuable experience in planning, candidates will have a mentor and be supported to undertake a RTPI accredited postgraduate degree followed by an End-point assessment (EPA) that leads to becoming a Chartered Town Planner with MRTPI status. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and value diversity and inclusion in our workplace.

This intensive programme will develop your understanding of how the planning system works and the crucial role it has in delivering physical, social and economic growth locally and nationally. You will be put forward for a series of placements (around 6 months each), understanding the context of planning and the impact these disciplines have on communities.

In Milton Keynes we have Policy, Development Management and Enforcement teams within Planning along with Urban Design and Conservation. These specialist teams will give you exposure to projects and developments shaping the future of the borough. Your experience will go beyond these core teams as the sector involves working with developers, agencies, Government departments, Parish and Town Councils and residents.
No day will be the same and providing you are keen to learn, the breadth of experience you will gain alongside your fully funded part-time master’s degree will develop you into a well-rounded Chartered Town Planner with a skills set that is in demand.
