Planning at Milton Keynes City Council
About us and what we do
One of the fastest growing Cities in the South East and the largest amount of green space per person. We are at the heart of the Oxford-Cambridge Arc, and a focus for growth outside of London, our recently adopted Plan:MK with its healthy housing land supply, aims to deliver at least 26,500 new homes by 2031.
The City Council has also begun working on its New City Plan which will deliver a vision for the city up until 2050 to strategically respond to the city's fast growing population and deliver associated economic growth. We are currently delivering the second wave of major city expansion, building new communities that mirror the best of the original masterplan designs.
Milton Keynes is an ambitious and innovative city, showcased by the successful completion of Hotel La Tour and the anticipated spring opening of the new Santander HQ.

Planning for the future...

To 2050 and Beyond

In 2021 we adopted our 2050 Strategy this sets out our ambition for low-carbon growth and an excellent quality of life for everyone in Milton Keynes, especially the children and young people who will be our future citizens, and those who choose to move here and join us in the ongoing story of our great city.

Our City Centre

The 2050 Strategy includes our Renaissance:CMK (Central Milton Keynes) project to create a new framework for growth and investment in our city centre. Recent developments include the 14 storey Hotel La Tour, Santander’s new HQ building, and the redeveloped YMCA.
Over the coming year we aim to support the development of a Mass Rapid Transport system for the city, support the delivery of a fully electrified East-West Rail and continue to promote better connectivity and infrastructure across the Oxford-MK-Cambridge Arc.
Digitisation

As well as planning for the future of this great city we are planning to move our service towards greater use of digital tools and platforms, transforming the way we undertake our work and deliver services to our customers.
