​Role Overview

Our Practice Educators play a vital role in developing the next generation of social workers within Adult Social Care. Working closely with Social Work students, apprentices and Newly Qualified Social Workers, they provide guidance, support and professional supervision to help learners build the skills, confidence and knowledge needed to deliver high-quality social work practice. Through coaching, mentoring and reflective learning, Practice Educators help shape a skilled and confident workforce that delivers positive outcomes for adults across Milton Keynes.

The role involves planning and delivering effective supervision, helping learners apply theory to practice and supporting them to develop critical reflection and professional judgement. Practice Educators oversee learning in complex situations, provide guidance on risk and safeguarding practice, and work collaboratively with colleagues, universities and training providers to ensure high-quality learning experiences. They also help resolve issues that may impact a learner's progress and contribute to the ongoing development of professional learning opportunities across Adult Services.

A key part of the role is championing continuous professional development and creating a positive learning culture. Practice Educators model best social work practice, promote the application of key legislation and support colleagues to develop their skills and confidence. They work in line with Social Work England standards and Milton Keynes City Council's values of being Dedicated, Respectful and Collaborative.

​​​Key requirements​​

• Hold a recognised social work qualification (Degree in Social Work, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent).

• Be registered with Social Work England.

• Have experience operating at Experienced Social Worker level, including managing complex caseloads.

• Hold a Practice Educator Professional Standards (PEPS) Stage Two qualification, or equivalent Practice Education qualification.

• Demonstrate ongoing Continuing Professional Development in line with Social Work England and Practice Educator Professional Standards requirements.

• Experience of coaching, mentoring or supporting the learning and development of others.

• Strong knowledge of social work practice, legislation and professional standards, including the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Human Rights Act 1998.

• Excellent communication, supervision and relationship-building skills.

• Able to travel to meet service delivery requirements.
